Utah Engagement Photographer | 5 Tips for the Perfect Engagement Shoot

May 7, 2019

I know that most of you do not have photo sessions every day and for many of you, this will be your first photo shoot together as a couple.  I know a lot of people stress before this first session, but by the end I have most of the guys telling me that wasn’t so bad and that it was kind of fun! My goal is to help you be yourselves, and to get beautiful images of your relationship!  Here are 5 tips to make it as enjoyable as possible:

5 Tips for Stress Free Engagement Session

(To see more of this beautiful engagement shoot, head to this post!  These two were some of my favorites to work with!)

1. Eat up!  Make sure the groom doesn’t come on an empty stomach. He’ll be much happier and more cooperative if he’s well-fed! Bring water for in-between locations. I love the mountains, so sometimes we will go on a little adventure to get to the picture-perfect spot.

2. Get comfortable with each other. I want you to feel and look as natural and comfortable together as possible for your photos. Sometimes it helps to look at poses on Pinterest and Instagram to get an idea of what you like and what I will be asking you to do. Don’t get too attached to specific images—we don’t need to copy them—just use them as inspiration. You might even watch some romantic movies to get inspiration from how they pose and interact. If you still feel a little uncomfortable about posing, don’t you worry! I will pose and direct you throughout the entire shoot.

3. Relax. Don’t overthink or stress about this shoot. Come expecting to have fun and be yourselves! I want your personalities and your love for each other to show through in these images.

4. Choose your outfits well. Wear clothes that you love and feel comfortable in. Head over to this link for more tips on choosing your outfits.

5. Pick locations you love. If there’s a place you love to go to together, let’s shoot there! We want these photos to reflect your love story. Places where you shared your first date, first kiss, or proposal make for meaningful shooting locations.

When people get your save-the-date card or invitation in the mail, your engagement photos will be the first impression they get of your wedding day. Make sure you prepare properly and come ready to have a good time!

Email me today to schedule your engagement session, spring in Utah is one of the best times for engagement photos! The blossoms go as soon as they arrive, act quick if you are wanting blossom photos!  jessica@jessicasphoto.com

Intimate Desert Amangiri Wedding | Destination Wedding

January 16, 2019

Intimate Desert Wedding at Amangiri

When you live in New York, you dream of open spaces and starry skies, and this New York couple wanted something quiet and modern for their wedding celebration. The Bride and Groom planned an intimate desert wedding with their family and closest friends at Amangiri, an Aman Resort.

Amangiri is a high-end location and one of my favorite places to photograph weddings. It is so stunning and apart of the Aman Resort Chain. The architecture of Amangiri is so inspiring and unique, the landscape shaped every part of the design for the hotel.

For their wedding theme, they were inspired by the desert and stayed with neutral colors to not take away from the stunning location. Her wedding dress was a custom made design by Christina Desmet in New York City; her boots went perfectly with the length of her wedding dress. The groom’s classic suit is from Acne.

The details

Their ceremony took place in a peaceful little rock canyon. The towering rock walls surrounded us, and we had a beautiful view of the cliffs behind the service. There wedding took place in November, and there were still a few signs of fall on some of the bushes, which created such a beautiful color palette. After their ceremony, we were able to explore the property for their portraits, and we chased the light as we made our way back to the resort.

One of my favorite details from their wedding was her wedding ring, she helped custom design it, and it was 3D printed by Bliss Lau.  I couldn’t even believe it when she told me how the designer created it. It was so intricate and delicate.

I love how their friends and family came together to make this such a special day! One of her bridesmaids foraged from the desert to create her unique bouquet and his boutonniere. Her nieces were so excited to have baskets of flowers to walk down the aisle.

Once the sunset they had a candlelit dinner under the stars. I love hearing toasts during the dinner; the Bride and Groom are so loved by their family. I get emotional every time!

I love small wedding celebrations; they are so intimate and beautiful. There is something so special to have your closest people witnessing your special day. If you are planning an intimate wedding, I would love to be apart of your day, email me to book your date today! jessica@jessicasphoto.com

Helicopter Proposal | Amangiri Photographer

January 9, 2019

Zac emailed me a few months before he planned on proposing.  He surprised his girlfriend Diana with a 2 day stay at the amazing Amangiri Resort in Southern Utah, an Aman Property.  I love being apart of the planning with the groom, it is so fun hearing their ideas and how they are going to execute the proposal!  Zac said that when they usually travel that he plans everything and has a detailed itinerary for the trip.  For this trip he told Diana that they didn’t have too many plans.  Once at Amangiri, he told her they were going to go to a car show and brunch so she should dress up, he instead went to the airport for a helicopter tour.  I posed as just another tourist on the trip, and hopefully didn’t seem too awkward going on a helicopter ride by myself, I had a cover story planned if she asked! 🙂  If you have never been on a helicopter you need to do it, it is one of the most amazing experiences!  We were able to fly over Horseshoe Bend and over a lot of Lake Powell.  As the pilot reached the tower, she came up the side and popped up on top, it was incredible!

After we landed on Tower Butte, which can only be accessed by helicopter, he showed her the itinerary for the rest of their trip as they looked over Lake Powell and on the last page he asked her to marry him, and of course she said yes!  I love proposals, they are so much fun to photograph, to see the surprise and excitement is so great!  My favorite was once he had put the ring on her finger and she looked at it again, her look is priceless, she has so much surprise and love in the looks that she gives him!  After the helicopter tour we returned to the resort to take advantage of the amazing architecture at Amangiri.

If you are thinking about planning a destination proposal it is such a good idea to have a photographer there to capture this once in a lifetime moment.  You will have these images to look back on forever and it is such a fun way to start planning your wedding!  You will also have photos ready to send out your Save the Dates.  I have been able to photograph so many fun proposals and have built life long friendships with some of the couples, and have been privileged to photograph other important milestones in their lives.  I would love to be apart of your big day, contact me to start planning! jessica@jessicasphoto.com
