Stylish Amangiri Couple Session

May 22, 2019

These two came to Amangiri to celebrate her birthday, every year for her birthday she celebrates in a new location and hires a photographer to do a photo shoot for her. Amangiri is the perfect place to celebrate something special!  The staff will make sure to do anything and everything to make it a special getaway!  Their motto is “No request is too great and no detail too small.”  I have seen that over and over every time I visit for photo shoots.

I was so excited when she showed me what they would be wearing, she had so many amazing outfits, her style was so beautiful!  She planned every little detail.  When she travels to new destinations for her shoots, she coordinates her outfits to the scenery so that everything goes together.  I am going to take this tip for when I travel!   Her outfits were perfect for the beautiful desert landscapes of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.  Her first outfit is from Free People and her amazing boots are from Zimmermann.  Her stunning dress at the end is from Zimmermann with he Gucci’s.

We spent the first half of the shoot around the resort, there are so many stunning locations around, every corner there is something amazing.  To end the shoot we made the 25 minute drive and one mile hike to see the stunning view of Horseshoe Bend.  I love the views there at sunset, it is one of the most beautiful places.  Her dress was so perfect for the sunset views and red rocks.  I loved the movement in her dress, when choosing your outfits for photo shoots, think about how it moves, this can create some fun elements to work with while we photograph.

I think we all need to celebrate our birthdays this way!  Travel to somewhere new and have a photo shoot to celebrate a new year!  Where would you go for your birthday celebration?

Email me to schedule your appointment. Time flies too fast, I am here to help you document all of your stages of life! Whether it be in Utah or somewhere new, I will be there!  jessica@jessicasphoto.com

What to Wear for your Engagement Session | Utah Photographer

March 4, 2019

I’m so glad you decided to do engagement photos before your wedding! An updated, professional photo of the two of you together is the perfect way to announce your wedding day. Engagement sessions are also great way for us to get to know each other and for you to get comfortable in front of my camera before your big day. It’s going to be so fun! Here are five tips for choosing engagement session outfits:

Class it up.

I usually have couples bring two to three outfits. I recommend at least one formal outfit and one casual outfit. The formal outfit really makes your engagement photos classy and timeless. You can do full formal for both of you, or for the bride to wear a dress and have the groom add a sports coat or nice sweater to a casual outfit. For your casual outfits, don’t choose clothes with logos, as they’re distracting in the photos. Neon and florescent colors put off weird color casts on your faces.

These photos are a great excuse to get something new for yourself. Find something you feel comfortable and confident in. I recommend something that dresses you up a little more than your everyday outfits to make these photos special. I encourage the bride to find something she loves first, and then match the groom’s outfit to what she is wearing. I love flowy dresses because they make for great movement photos and they’re flattering on everyone. If you’re pulling items from your closet, make sure they are pressed and laundered.

Don’t be too matchy.

Use coordinating colors, but don’t choose outfits that look the same. Patterns are nice, but I would try to keep them to just one of your outfits, so they don’t compete too much. Variety is good!

Choose your outfits based on the seasons.

If it looks cold outside, dress warmly so you match your environment naturally. Don’t wear short sleeves or shorts in the winter. If you’re dressed warmly with appropriate clothes and shoes, it will make fall and winter shoots look better and be more enjoyable. If it’s summery outside, dress accordingly—light colors and thinner fabrics.

Consider getting your hair and makeup done.

Hair and makeup artists will enhance your natural beauty to help you look your best and camera-ready. This is an investment you’ll be so glad you made! Here’s a list of hair and makeup artists I love to work with (in no particular order):

Tia Montgomery

Taylor Wood

Carrie Purser

April Benincosa

Janell Ingram

If you still need help with your outfits, here is a Pinterest board I’ve put together with some ideas! If you still need help deciding, I’m happy to help. Just text me some photos of what you are thinking and we’ll find a combo that will help you and your fiancé look stunning in your photos!

Intimate Desert Amangiri Wedding | Destination Wedding

Intimate Desert Wedding at Amangiri

When you live in New York, you dream of open spaces and starry skies, and this New York couple wanted something quiet and modern for their wedding celebration. The Bride and Groom planned an intimate desert wedding with their family and closest friends at Amangiri, an Aman Resort.

Amangiri is a high-end location and one of my favorite places to photograph weddings. It is so stunning and apart of the Aman Resort Chain. The architecture of Amangiri is so inspiring and unique, the landscape shaped every part of the design for the hotel.

For their wedding theme, they were inspired by the desert and stayed with neutral colors to not take away from the stunning location. Her wedding dress was a custom made design by Christina Desmet in New York City; her boots went perfectly with the length of her wedding dress. The groom’s classic suit is from Acne.

The details

Their ceremony took place in a peaceful little rock canyon. The towering rock walls surrounded us, and we had a beautiful view of the cliffs behind the service. There wedding took place in November, and there were still a few signs of fall on some of the bushes, which created such a beautiful color palette. After their ceremony, we were able to explore the property for their portraits, and we chased the light as we made our way back to the resort.

One of my favorite details from their wedding was her wedding ring, she helped custom design it, and it was 3D printed by Bliss Lau.  I couldn’t even believe it when she told me how the designer created it. It was so intricate and delicate.

I love how their friends and family came together to make this such a special day! One of her bridesmaids foraged from the desert to create her unique bouquet and his boutonniere. Her nieces were so excited to have baskets of flowers to walk down the aisle.

Once the sunset they had a candlelit dinner under the stars. I love hearing toasts during the dinner; the Bride and Groom are so loved by their family. I get emotional every time!

I love small wedding celebrations; they are so intimate and beautiful. There is something so special to have your closest people witnessing your special day. If you are planning an intimate wedding, I would love to be apart of your day, email me to book your date today! jessica@jessicasphoto.com
