Jackson Hole Wedding | Snake River Ranch Wedding Photographer | Matt and Kristen

August 24, 2022

Their Story

“The beginning to our Jackson Hole wedding story started when Matt and I met almost 12 years ago, in a bar in New York. Surrounded by loud music, it was one of those bars where the lights are dim and anything is possible. Immediately the sparks were evident. After a proper date, we quickly became an item. At this time we were 20-somethings exploring New York, starting new jobs, moving into new apartments, and falling in love. But, as the old adage goes, even if everything else is perfect, timing is truly everything.

After a few years of dating, a combination of mutual youthful uncertainty and job opportunities brought our story to a brief hiatus. Soon after I moved to the west coast. Similarly, we both took a few years to independently build our careers, acquire life experience, and grow up a little. During that time, we never fully lost touch. In addition to the passage of time came greater clarity that our story wasn’t really done. After 4 years, a business trip took me back to New York. Knowing Matt was single, I asked him to meet me for a drink, and the rest – as they say – is history.”

Changing Plans

” ‘On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the love starts.’ Those were the words read out loud at our wedding ceremony, between bouts of lighting and thunder, followed by blue skies and rainbows, and nestled in the towering Teton mountains. While the weather may not have been perfect for our Jackson Hole wedding ceremony, after a year’s delay due to the pandemic, the love was so evident on that day.

When we started planning our wedding in 2019, getting married in the Valley was a no brainer. We each have our own ties to Jackson – Matt’s family is from Jackson and I’ve been visiting family and friends there since I was a toddler. Jackson is also the location of many of our relationship firsts – our first “I love yous,” meeting each other’s families, our first ski trip.

Once we agreed to host our wedding in the valley, we knew we wanted Snake River Ranch as the backdrop for our vows. I called up some very good family friends to see if we could use their beautiful ranch. By the end of 2019, we had a great vendor team lined up and were ready to celebrate in 2020. That was until COVID hit. As well as so many couples, we therefore had made the tough decision to rethink our wedding. We knew we didn’t want to risk anyone’s health and safety. Additionally, we knew we didn’t want to miss out on a special celebration with our “tribe” of friends and family.

With some reorganizing, amazing kindness and flexibility from our vendor team, we postponed our plans in Jackson for 364 days. We then turned our attention to replanning for this year’s celebration.

The Wedding

‘On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the love starts.’ Those were the words read out loud at our wedding ceremony, between bouts of lighting and thunder, followed by blue skies and rainbows, and nestled in the towering Teton mountains. And while the weather may not have been perfect for our Jackson Hole wedding ceremony, after a year’s delay due to the pandemic, the love was so evident on that day.

Most of our guests had to travel to get to Jackson. We wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to enjoy the splendor of the Teton Valley, from fly fishing, backyard parties, lawn games and group hikes in the mountains. Moreover, it was important to us that the weekend was personal and highlighted the importance of our families.

We wrote our own vows, the table numbers were hand made by my father, my veil and the lace table runners were both sewn by my mother. In fact, our welcome party was held in Matt’s parents’ backyard where so many of our fond memories are. In other words, we intentionally to created a sense of an intimate and personal celebration. And celebrate we did.

Worth the Wait

In spite of the rain and thunder that damped the Valley throughout our wedding weekend, after almost 18 months of living through the pandemic, the love and excitement from our friends and family couldn’t be damped.

In the same way our dating journey wasn’t a straight line, it’s almost destined that neither would our wedding planning journey be. Whether you’re weathering the challenges of wedding planning during a pandemic, or just planning for the uncertainties of weather in Jackson, having the right team is key. Most importantly, we learned that if you make your love the priority, surround yourself with a thoughtful and talented team of vendors, and are willing to roll with whatever surprise the Valley throws at you, Jackson Hole is a truly incredible place to celebrate your marriage.”

Luxury Destination Wedding Venue | Amangiri Resort in Southern Utah

April 9, 2019

Amangiri is a Luxury Resort located in Canyon Point, Utah.  The hotel is apart of the luxury brand; Aman Resorts. Aman hotels are in remote locations, where you can retreat to relax or have an adventure in a beautiful landscape.  The hotel rests at the base of a beautiful mesa, and is designed around the existing sandstone.  Amangiri means “peaceful mountain” and it is just that! As you stay at The Amangiri you will feel like you are in a world on its own.  It is the perfect location for your intimate elopement, a small wedding or grand event.  I have had the opportunity to photograph here for over 6 years, and I am lucky to be one of their preferred photographers.  I have photographed over 16 different sessions at the property including proposals, intimate engagement sessions, anniversary sessions, maternity sessions, elopements, intimate weddings and birthday celebrations.  Every event is perfect. Aman Resorts pride themselves with making anything possible, “no request is too great and no detail too small.”  I have seen this in action over and over again. The event coordinators will do whatever it takes to make your wedding dreams a reality.  They have the most amazing staff. You will receive the highest quality of service while at an Aman Resort.

I have met some of the most wonderful people while photographing at Amangiri, and many of them I still do photoshoots with.  The very first shoot that I had was a surprise proposal, where I posed as another guest on a helicopter tour and secretly photographed him popping the question. Click here to see that amazing engagement shoot!   Since then I have photographed other big events for this couple and it is truly an honor to continue to document their lives.  The other day I received a text from him informing me that they were expecting, and I was the first person that they had told!  It was such an honor to get that message, I can’t wait to meet their little one!  I love to continue working with the clients that I meet at the resort.

Weddings at Amangiri are some of my favorite!  As you are trying to plan your luxury destination wedding, consider this beautiful and unique location.  You can have your ceremony at the resort, or they have over 600 acres of property where your ceremony can be held.  I have photographed an elopement where they had a traditional Navajo Ceremony, it was one of the most unique ceremonies I have ever attended.  You can see that wedding here.  There are other amazing locations at the resort. For inspiration, clink on this link to see a wedding in the Desert lounge. They hired By Bloomers to put together some amazing floral arrangments.  The most recent wedding that I photographed took place in a rock canyon on the property and it was one of the most beautiful ceremony locations that I have ever photographed. The wedding was intimate with their immediate family and a few friends, to be inspired head a few posts back to this blog post.

If you are planning a trip to Amangiri, I would love to photograph you in this unique and inspiring location. The portraits created will be images that you will cherish. I often photograph at the resort and at other great locations close by in a single shoot. Some of the most unique areas near the resort include Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Antelope Canyon to name a few.  The options are endless!  Or if you are planning a wedding or event I would love to be a part of your big day!  If you are planning an Amangiri wedding or an Aman Resort Wedding email me at jessica@jessicasphoto.com and I would love to discuss details with you!

While you are at Amangiri they have so many trails to explore. One of my favorites is the hike to the Broken Arrow Cave. It happens to be the location from the opening scene of the movie Broken Arrow, hence the name, and is now outdoor studio for the very talented painter Ulrike Arnold. paints, she has painted all of the earth paintings found around the resort.  I have become good friends with her and have photographed her work for her.  She currently has a painting hanging at the United Nations Headquarters.

If you have a large group you can stay at the Mesa Home pictured below. This location is away from the main resort and provides the perfect intimate and secluded setting to host your guests.

If you are wanting more of an adventure you must try one of the Via Ferrata’s that they have on property.  A Via Ferrata is Italian and means Iron Road. On a rock face there are metal rungs where you climb to the top of Studhorse Mesa and then cross over a suspension bridge that is two hundred and thirty two feet long and over the top of a six hundred foot gorge.  It was one of the most amazing experiences!  The views from the top were unreal!

The resort also offers excursions on Lake Powell. My favorite was boating to and then kayaking through Labyrnth Canyon.

Jackson Hole Winter Wedding | Jackson Hole Wedding Photographer

March 13, 2019

There is something so magical about winter, I love that it gets dark early, it gives us a time to rest and recover from the busier seasons.  I always get a little sad when winter ends, I love cross country skiing, and I can never get enough runs in!  Right now I am savoring every snow storm, even though Spring is fast approaching.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is the perfect destination for a winter wedding.  It is magical anytime of year, but there is something about the snow that creates the perfect scene for a wedding!  This snow covered pine tree lane made for the perfect backdrop for this winter shoot!  This location was perfect for shooting for a bit and then warming up in the car before doing more photos, Marie was such a good sport with the colder temperatures!  When doing a winter shoot, be prepared to take time to warm up and wear as many layers as you can underneath, it will make all of the difference!

The bride wore a beautiful wedding dress from Jann Marie Bridal.  I just love working with Jann Marie Bridal‘s dresses, she has created the most beautiful, modern yet timeless and comfortable wedding dresses.  I love the way they move, the fabric drapes so perfectly.  If you are looking for a wedding dress you won’t be disappointed with their designs!

For her bouquet she chose cool tones for her bouquet, with muted purples and greens.  I love the mix of the dark purple tulips with the green and purple hellebores.  Lexie Sandberg with Carpe Diem Floral created the most amazing bouquet for this bridal shoot.  She is so talented she chooses the most beautiful flowers for her arrangements, each stem is handpicked with a purpose.  Hellebore’s are one of my favorite flowers for bouquets, I can never get enough of them.

I would love to talk to you about your upcoming wedding in Jackson Hole, contact me today to learn more! jessica@jessicasphoto.com
