Travel Guide: Aarhus Denmark

August 7, 2018

“To travel is to live.” Hans Christian Andersen

Last August my mom and I went to Denmark and we fell in love with this beautiful country!  The design, the streets the food, everything was amazing!  Our first stop in Denmark was Copenhagen, you can head back on the blog to see what we loved in Copenhagen.  After Copenhagen we drove to Aarhus, we stopped in Odense to see Hans Christian Andersen’s home and museum, it was such a cute little town and I loved reading all of the quotes from his fairy tales.

We were lucky enough to have some friends in Aarhus that gave us an awesome tour of the city.  Aarhus is an up and coming city, it was so hip!  We were there when so many new things were opening!  Here are a few of our favorite things!

We stayed in an Air BNB near Bruuns Galleri and it was the perfect central location.

We were there on the opening day for the Selling Rooftop, they created a beautiful garden area on the rooftop of the department store.  There was a cute restaurant and little amphitheater and a glass sidewalk that you could walk out on and look at the street below.

We found the best street food market, there were so many options and the food was so delicious.  Make sure to visit Aarhus Street Food.

We only had a few hours at the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, we wish we would have had more time, but walking around the Rainbow Panorama gave a great view of the city.

I am always drawn to the water on trips, one of my favorite things to do is walk along the water.  There were so many fun things to do around DOKK1, it had just opened up as well!  And they have the coolest parking garage, it was like we traveled to the future.  We were also able to see the boat that the Queen of Denmark was staying on!

I also love visiting Botanical Gardens when I travel, I love to see all of the plant varieties!

I wish we would have had more time at the Den Gamle By, we had to run through it quick but I could have spent a lot more time there!

And most of these photos were taken on the cutest street I have ever seen, you must go to Mollestien!

Travel Guide: Copenhagen, Denmark

July 31, 2018

Last August my mom and I went to Denmark and we fell in love!  Our first stop was in Copenhagen, we had 2 full days to explore.  The first day that we got there we walked around Nyhavn, and as you can tell I took a million photos of the boats and the buildings! I loved it there so much!  Everything was so picture perfect! We had dinner at Skipperkroen, and it was the most amazing food, we practically licked our plates clean!  All of the food that we ate in Denmark was so fresh and healthy. The restaurants along the water were perfect for relaxing and people watching. We even went back to Nyhavn to photograph at sunrise so we could get more shots without people.  I have never been a morning person, but to photograph busy touristy places it is the only way to go, and I think the mornings are growing on me…. when I am on vacation!  We loved watching people get ready for their day to begin and prep their shops and restaurants for another busy day.

One of our favorite things to shop for was home decor and kitchen items in Denmark, I love how simple and functional everything is!  I was even almost tempted to change my living style to be a minimalist but then I wanted to buy one of everything there and I knew I would never make it to that point.  Even the shops at the airports had the best dishes and home items, and if you know me I have a weakness for dishes!  Just be prepared to spend a lot on them!

Things we did:

Nyhavn: This was one of our favorite areas to walk around in, and the restaurants were amazing!

Rundetaarn: This was one of my favorites, the walk up the Round Tower was so cool!  And I always love getting to the top to get a good view of the city!

Tivoli Gardens: We were amazed by all of the pretty flowers here. There were tons of great restaurant options too.  If you are traveling with children there are a lot of rides and games for kids.

Church of Our Lady:  I loved seeing the statues of the resurrected Christ and his disciples, there was such a peaceful feeling there.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints created replicas after the statues by Bertel Thorvaldsen

Danish Museum of Art & Design: We loved looking at all of the things that were made in Denmark and loved seeing all of the amazing chair designs!

Rosenborg Castle: The gardens in the area were so fun to walk around in.

The Little Mermaid:  I always enjoy walking along the water, and this was a perfect area to explore.

Paris, France Engagement Photographer

January 8, 2018

Paris is such a beautifully, romantic city!  There is so much to do and see!  I planned this trip because I wanted to work on a photo project in Paris, check out my shop to see what I created!  While I was there my good friend Tia happened to be there at the same time doing hair and makeup for a wedding.  We got one of the bridesmaids and her husband to do a photo shoot with us, we had such a good time!  I could get use to photographing couples in Paris.  While I was there waiting for them, so many couples were out with their tripods trying to get a shot of themselves.  I offered to do a few photos for a few of them, and it was so much fun!

When you are shooting in Paris and wanting the iconic landmarks, it is best to start at sunrise, the crowds haven’t started coming out yet, and it made it easier to get a shot without people in the background.  By the time sunset hit at some of the locations you can barely move around. It was so peaceful in the morning too.  I loved my walk to the Eiffel Tower, the sky was changing colors, and the streets were calm and peaceful.  This spot with the view of the Eiffel Tower is Trocadero Hill and I love the view from the top!

Some of my favorite things to do in Paris are to eat all of the pastries!  We ate some delicious breakfast treats at Eric Kayser’s they have lots of locations, and it was so perfect to grab a little treat and go sit in a beautiful park.  I loved the Musee de l’Orangerie, it was probably one of my favorites, the Water Lilies by Monet are just amazing to see in person.  After we went there we decided to go to Giverny to see Monet’s house and his garden,  it was totally worth the hour and a half train ride, it was probably one of my favorite things that we did while in Paris.  We just went for an afternoon, but you could spend an entire day there if you love flowers and gardens.
