How to Create Your Perfect Beauty Routine Before the Big Day

July 8, 2019

Article written by: Elise Morgan

Take a look at your wedding checklist. You probably have things like tour venues, book a DJ, or cake tastings. But have you remembered your beauty routine? There are steps you can take early to ensure that you are your best you on your big day.

Yes, that means adding another thing to your list, but have no fear! This handy guide has all the information you need to start and keep your best bridal beauty routine.

One Year Until the Big Day (or ASAP)

 Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation should be a part of your skin care routine whether you’re getting married or not. Dead skin cells gather on the skin while we’re living our best lives and exfoliating a few times a week can help your skin look healthier and brighter.

 Maintain healthy habits

Time to focus on the big three: eating well, exercising, and getting a good night’s sleep. These are the first lines of defense for our glowing skin, killer curves, and ultimately being your best you.

 Face washing

While you, no doubt, make a habit of washing your face, it might be time to make one small change. Stop using the washcloth because they are full of bacteria. Your best option for wiping the day away is to simply use your hands.

6 Months Until the Big Day

 Visit the dermatologist

If you have major skin concerns, it’s best to visit a professional as soon as possible to get it under control. Whether it’s acne, uneven skin, pores, or redness you need to address, it may take a few sessions so be sure to go early and schedule enough follow ups to ensure you’ll be ready for your big day.

1 Month Until the Big Day

 Try out a keratin treatment

If you live a life of taming naturally frizzy hair, see if your hairdresser will try a keratin treatment. Doing this early ensures your texture is under control but won’t fall flat on your wedding day.

1 Week Until the Big Day

 Look at Lashes

When you’re doing your final makeup test run, consider whether or not you’re the kind of bride who can get through the day on waterproof mascara. If not, ask about trying on false eyelashes to enhance your bridal look.

 Make some mani-pedi time

You should always have your nails done one to two days before you’re set to walk down the aisle. While you’re at it, spring for the mani-pedi packages that include essential oils, fancy scrubs, and massages. Relax. You deserve it.

The Morning of Your Wedding

Use a Mask and kick back

The morning of your wedding is a great time to do one more exfoliating mask before sitting in the makeup chair. Once you’ve care for your skin, let everyone else take care of you. Sit back and celebrate finding the love of your life.

Salt Lake Temple Wedding | Utah Wedding Photographer

May 31, 2019

I am feeling a little nostalgic with all of the Salt Lake Temple Weddings that I have photographed, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints announced that the Salt Lake Temple will close at the end of 2019 for 4 years!   That is sooo long!  This place had been a part of my career for the last 14 years, the grounds are always so beautiful and it is one of my favorite places to photograph weddings!  If you are wanting to get married there, you better get your date scheduled, I bet the times will go fast!  Especially towards the end of the year!

Ryan and Madison were so much fun to work with last year, we did their engagements at Antelope Island and did some of their formal photos in Moab, I just loved the images that we got at those sessions.  They got married in September and had their ceremony at the Salt Lake Temple and their reception was held at the Salt Lake Hardware Building, unfortunately I don’t think they are doing weddings there any more.  I love the industrial look with the exposed brick and beautiful arch ways.  Manda Petersen, did such an amazing job with all of her flowers and decorations!  She made three lovely bouquets for the shoots that we did and I loved everyone of them.  I love the vine of greenery with flowers on all of the tables!

Madison has such great taste, she had some of the best food at her reception!  They served tacos and churros, tacos are one of the most amazing foods and perfect for a fun reception atmosphere.

She got her wedding dress at The Brides Shop located just east of the Salt Lake Temple.

If you have always dreamed of having your wedding at the Salt Lake Temple, hurry and book your date with them, I am sure it will be super busy this fall!  I would love to be your photographer for your wedding, email me to schedule your wedding date! jessica@jessicasphoto.com

Utah Engagement Photographer | 5 Tips for the Perfect Engagement Shoot

May 7, 2019

I know that most of you do not have photo sessions every day and for many of you, this will be your first photo shoot together as a couple.  I know a lot of people stress before this first session, but by the end I have most of the guys telling me that wasn’t so bad and that it was kind of fun! My goal is to help you be yourselves, and to get beautiful images of your relationship!  Here are 5 tips to make it as enjoyable as possible:

5 Tips for Stress Free Engagement Session

(To see more of this beautiful engagement shoot, head to this post!  These two were some of my favorites to work with!)

1. Eat up!  Make sure the groom doesn’t come on an empty stomach. He’ll be much happier and more cooperative if he’s well-fed! Bring water for in-between locations. I love the mountains, so sometimes we will go on a little adventure to get to the picture-perfect spot.

2. Get comfortable with each other. I want you to feel and look as natural and comfortable together as possible for your photos. Sometimes it helps to look at poses on Pinterest and Instagram to get an idea of what you like and what I will be asking you to do. Don’t get too attached to specific images—we don’t need to copy them—just use them as inspiration. You might even watch some romantic movies to get inspiration from how they pose and interact. If you still feel a little uncomfortable about posing, don’t you worry! I will pose and direct you throughout the entire shoot.

3. Relax. Don’t overthink or stress about this shoot. Come expecting to have fun and be yourselves! I want your personalities and your love for each other to show through in these images.

4. Choose your outfits well. Wear clothes that you love and feel comfortable in. Head over to this link for more tips on choosing your outfits.

5. Pick locations you love. If there’s a place you love to go to together, let’s shoot there! We want these photos to reflect your love story. Places where you shared your first date, first kiss, or proposal make for meaningful shooting locations.

When people get your save-the-date card or invitation in the mail, your engagement photos will be the first impression they get of your wedding day. Make sure you prepare properly and come ready to have a good time!

Email me today to schedule your engagement session, spring in Utah is one of the best times for engagement photos! The blossoms go as soon as they arrive, act quick if you are wanting blossom photos!  jessica@jessicasphoto.com
