Tulum, Mexico was such a fun trip!  I went to photograph an engagement session and then had a day and a half to explore and play.  I ate fish tacos and guacamole at every meal and it was the best!  Fish tacos and chips and salsa may be one of my all time favorite food, and there were so many good restaurants to choose from!

Here are a few of our favorite places:

Burrito Amor, located in town, it was such a cute little spot and everything was so fresh and healthy!

We had amazing fish tacos at El Capitan, and if you are like me I can never get tired of fish tacos.

For a fine dining experience, Tulum has a lot of amazing options we ate at the Casa Banana on our final night and it was such a treat!  Open air restaurant with a big stone oven that they cooked all of the food at.

The vibe in Tulum is so chill and laid back, beautiful beaches and places to explore by bike or by renting a car.

We crammed in so much in just a few days, here are a few of my favorite activities:

Swimming with the turtles at Akumal, it was so amazing to swim next to them.  My friend had an under water housing for her phone that she let me use, so while I was swimming around trying to video the turtles I got soooooo motion sick with the waves and viewing it through a phone.  Cole did not believe me because all of my videos were just of the water! But I promise I swam with them, I am not the best snorkeling photographer, I will have to work on that next time.  The beach at Akumal was so beautiful, I could have walked the entire beach all day!

The Gran Cenote was probably my favorite thing!  It was so amazing to swim through the fresh water cave!  The water was the perfect temperature and so many cool things to see!

The Tulum Ruins were so fascinating to see, and the beach at the bottom was my favorite part!  We did part of the photo shoot down there and it was so perfect.  I recommend going right when it opens to try and beat the tour buses.  When we were there, they only let people down to the beach at certain times, but they had no specific time that they did it, only when they wanted to open it.  We could have gone down there and been the only ones if we wanted to bribe one of the guards, if I went again I would totally slip him a few pesos to get the beach to ourselves!

I loved walking around all of the little shops, the bright colors were so vibrant!  There were so many beautiful textiles to photograph and enjoy. I loved seeing all of the old VW vehicles decorated with happy graffiti.  I usually get something for my house when I travel, but I just brought home some good Mexican Vanilla on this trip!  It was so delicious, I only used it in my favorite recipes.  I do regret not buying one of the cool hammocks!  I packed in a small suit case because it was a short trip so it wouldn’t fit in my suit case!

We stayed in a little boutique hotel and it was seriously perfect.  The Cancun area has a lot of large resorts, which are great, but I like to be a little more local when I travel.  This place only had a dozen or so rooms, but the people were fabulous and so willing to help!  Aqua Viva was a nice low cost place to stay!
